You Are What You Eat and More
Suzanne Goodchild
What you put into your body pre-determines the amount of energy you have to use in your life, whether it is at work or at home.
It effects your performance as an employer, employee or in your relationships. E.g. partner, wife, children, friend’s relations etc.
It is important to take care of your physical body through exercise, relaxation and *work-life balance.
It is in your best interest to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day by walking or some other type of aerobic exercise, at least 3 times a week.
This is great for your physical body, your heart and peace of mind. Carrying excess baggage in the way of excess body weight can cause stress in both the physical and the psychological sense.
If you did a survey on the majority of the population, they would tell you they feel more energized after exercise.
Points to consider...
Re-energise with food.
- Choose foods that give you the most value. That is, those with high energy content and the least amount of processing. Fresh food is preferable and much better than processed food.
- Ensure you eat regularly to keep your energy levels up. Either by consuming three meals a day, or 4 to 5 small meals (grazing).
- Keep in mind that breakfast is the most important meal of the day…your daily kick-start.
- At breaks, choose fruit or salad. They are easier to digest and will prevent that heavy feeling.
- If you overeat or you have a heavy or over full feeling it may be hard for you to concentrate.
Fresh fruit, vegetables or freshly juiced fruit and vegetables, are great nutritious and energy giving choices.
Re-energise with water...
- Increase your fluid intake, preferably with water, while you are working. Water aids and supports your concentration levels.
- When your brain realizes you are thirsty, you are already well underway to being dehydrated, your concentration levels will drop and you will not be able to retain or recall as much information as you may wish.
- Ensure you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.
“Tea”- energise by making careful choices...
- Try to minimize your intake of alcohol, coffee, tea and soft drink. Excellent alternatives are herbal teas and herbal coffee.
Re-energise by breathing...
- Find a quiet moment, and a place where you feel comfortable.
- Take deep breath through your nose and hold it for as long as you can, then release slowly through your mouth. This will replenish the oxygen in your blood. Repeat this throughout the day.
Re-energise through exercise...
- Movement generates energy. Sitting for long periods slows the heart rate and attention span.
- Consider some simple stretching exercises or a brisk walk in your break to re-energise yourself.
Re-energise with cotton and natural fibres’...
- So many venues are air-conditioned these days. Take a jacket (try to purchase one made of healthy natural fibres); in case the air-conditioning is cooler than your needs.
Re-energise with *colour. The colors you wear are important and may have more meaning in your life than you realise...
- Red = power, passion, strength, courage and fast action.
- Blue = communication, trust, inner-strength and confidence.
- Green = goal driven, endurance and luck.
- Yellow = intelligence, learning, loyalty and wisdom.
- Brown = practical, earthed, hard work and productivity.
- Orange = flamboyance, ambition, success, career goals and endurance.
- Vibrant Pinks = energy.
- Pink = friendship, goodwill and calmness.
- Purple = independence, self-confidence, ambition and big profits.
Re-energise with planning. It is remarkable how much an ordered life can take off some of the pressure...
- Take time to work out.
- Prioritise, and pace your self.
- Check out how the *Work Life Balance aspect of your life is.
Cheers
