How to Get Work Life Balance . . .
Work Life balance and You.
Suzanne Goodchild
To get Work/Life balance you need to change your thought patterns.
- Become more aware of how you manage your time. Plan events or things that are important to you. You want to have holidays? Map them out in advance. Keep your diary up to date.
- Learn to prioritize the things that allow you to place yourself first. Learn to say NO to people who try to move you past the things you have already planned.
- Change your mind chatter that says you have to do everything alone without help or assistance. Learn to ask others for help. Ask how they got through their challenges when they were starting out. Ask friends and colleagues that might be in business to help. Adapt the ideas they share so they suit your needs.
- Let others you trust in the community share their skills with you. You may barter, exchange or pay them for their gifts or skills, so that you have more time.
- Manage your time more appropriately. Look at your work practice and assess where you may be able to create more space and time in your day. You can then put yourself in touch with your sense of inner calm or peace. This may only be possible for a few minutes each day; never the less it is an extremely valuable space for you use positively.
- Learn to integrate and have fun in the work place. Again, look for exchange, barter or payment.
- Know who you are. Know what spins your wheels and gives you that sense of balance in your life. What is it you need to do to relax and unwind? It may not be something that you share with another. E.g. Gardening, walking, soccer, netball etc
- Wake up every morning feeling that the work you are doing is something that you most enjoy and that you are passionate about. Every morning you need to feel as if you are looking forward to the day that is ahead of you, rather than not.
Look forward to hearing how this works for you...
Cheers
